Supergirl: Rise of the Fallen

The idea behind this story is that what would happen in a world where heroes age, grow old and die. The time line may not coincide with the DC universes, I had to make concessions to make events in other stories I might write down the road coincide with known historical events, such as Supergirl's death which I moved to sometime after 911. This also means that some heroes will be older than normally portrayed. This also gives rise to the need to create more heroes to have a full JLA roster.

7:15 on a Sunday morning in July 2028

Mary knocked on the door of the double wide trailer in her backyard, she was concerned after seeing 3 expensive looking cars pulling out of the dirt driveway as she returned home from working the night shift at the diner. She had known Linda for almost 18 years now and had never seen the men in those cars before. Mary knocked again and called out for Linda "Linda are you ok", no answer. The 55 year old woman deeply worried about her best friend , the little voice in her head telling her something was seriously wrong here.

The worried woman tried the knob discovering it unlocked started to open the door to best friends kitchen, she knew Linda had to be home her car was in the drive and she very rarely went anywhere but to work. As she opened the door she called out again "Linda are you…OH MY GOD." Mary stood there for a second taking in the sight of the kitchen covered in blood.

The shock passed quickly, as a mother of 2 she was used to there being a crisis or 2 now and then but this was well beyond normal. She steadied herself and followed the blood trail around the corner finding Linda crawling down the hallway toward the bedrooms. "Linda what happened" she cried out as she rushed to her friend.

She knew the injuries from experience, her ex had been abusive. Looking Linda over she took score of the wounds. Broken nose, broken right forearm as well as dislocated right shoulder, her left leg also appeared to be broken. She also seemed to have several broken ribs and many large gashes all over her body. Whoever those men were they worked Linda over her good.

"Linda, we have to get you to a hospital." She knew this wasn't going to be easy, neither of them had a land line and the only cell tower in range was damaged in last weeks tornado. Add that to the fact that their nearest neighbor was at least a half mile away in this part of Nebraska .

"No ,...my….. room" the beaten blonde replied in a very low voice struggling to get each word out . Mary knew better than to argue with her old friend, she could be stubborn.

She would have to get Linda to her room then race for help.

An hour earlier that same morning aboard the Watch Tower II space station.

Diana gave her final instructions to The Red Flame, he was a newly trained 18 year old and this would be his first time flying solo in the watch tower. Wonderwoman was looking forward to a shower and some sack time after manning the control center for the last 12 hours. She had covered the 6p.m. Saturday night to 6a.m. Sunday morning shift almost every week for the past 30+ years. The station was changed to central time after many complaints about the time difference from west coast heroes. She would spend the night catching up on bulletins put out by top law enforcement agencies around the world. Along with the usual there were two that stood out. One was about the Air Force loosing one of it's new cruise missile, someone was in big trouble. Second was about an ex Iranian officer turned arms dealer, Interpol believed he had gotten his hands on a nuclear warhead. "Now if you have a situation you can't handle I'll be in my quarters trying to get some sleep." Diana turned and headed for the door, noting that through her final instructions the boy never seemed to stop checking out her 40" double D chest. She couldn't really blame him , after all he was a normal American 18 year old boy. Hell even most full grown men, and some women, couldn't help but check out her chest. She didn't seem to get mad at this behavior as she did the first few decades after she came to the man's world. Now she had come somewhat used to it.

"I'll be fine, I've been training for weeks for this" the boy said as he checked out her ass as she walked away. She knew he was watching her butt, but like with her tits over the decades she'd become used to this behavior too. As the door to the control room closed ,Red Flame turned his attention to his duties. That is after one final thought of how much he would like to bang that ass.

Moments later Diana was in her quarters. She held her arms out to the side and spun. It was now close to 8 o'clock a Mary had finally gotten Linda to her room and on to her bed. The badly beaten Linda had passed out as soon as she was on her bed. On the way the only information she had been able to get was Linda had no idea who the men were and that they had taken Barbi, Barbi being the younger of Linda's 2 daughters just 18 years old and considered by both women to be quite naïve. Linda's older daughter, Marti, had run away years ago when she was just 15, she had not been heard from since. Linda had tried to say something else, but she couldn't make out what she was trying to say.

Mary turned to go out and get help when she spied an old foot locked in Linda's closet.

Linda's closet was usually open, she couldn't close it with all the dirty cloths on the floor. Linda wasn't the best house keeper. She remembered something her friend had told her years ago. She remembered that Linda had told her as well as Marti and Barbi that if she were to be killed , die, or get really sick or something like that to open the trunk, there would be instructions on what she wanted done inside. Maybe that was what Linda was trying to say, well this fit the or something like that criteria she thought. Mary quickly dragged the foot locker out of the closet and noticed that it was locked with a pad lock. Not having time to look for a key and an unconscious Linda was going to be of no help, Mary knew her friend kept a big flathead screwdriver in the nightstand to deal with the sticky bedroom window. Retrieving the tool Mary used it to pry the latch off the foot locker, the lock would have been too hard to break.

Mary opened the trunk and looked inside, it was mostly full of what looked like old clothes and a metal box with a hand written note written on thin cardboard duct taped to it. She pulled the box out the trunk and put it on the vanity table near the window. The middle aged woman read the note written by her friend that looked to be written years earlier. It had to be written years ago, it had Marti's name on it.

Mary, Marti or Barbi, If 1 of you is reading this it means that something bad has happened to me. Either that or I'm going to be pissed since you had to break into the trunk to read this because there is no key. Now remove the note and follow the instructions on the back of this note.

Mary would have liked to laugh at the pissed part, but this was no time for humor. She removed the note a gave a small gasp of confusion, The box was labeled J.L.A. 2000 mach 1.

The woman turned to look at her friend and asked, not really expecting an answer," just who the hell are you." She knew her friend had secrets that she never wanted to talk about, but she always thought it was to do with an abusive ex or something, not this. The note said to open the box and turn it on , there may not be enough battery power left so you may have to plug it in. Mary, not wanting to worry about the battery, pulled the power cord out of the storage space on the right side of the key board on the bottom part of the box, the top looked to have an LED view screen . She plugged it in under the vanity table then sat in the chair at the table and pushed the power button in the upper left corner. A prompt on the screen in less than 10 seconds, Mary thought why can't my computer be this fast. Mary returned to the note to see what to do next. Linda's instructions said to type in the code "ww1942red1alpha." She did as the note stated then the machine asked for a confirmation code. She again looked to the note for the answer and there it was, confirmation code "dragonreddragon." That's all there was on the note so Mary punched in the code and waited to see what would happen. She didn't have to wait long. A red masked face appeared on the screen saying "This is Red Flame on The Watch Tower station how my I help you."

Mean while 30 miles away

"Yeah boss, we got the girl." Vinnie was informing the boss how the morning's activities had gone, Vinnie was the bosses second in command. The other five guys, all of them were over 6 foot tall and over 200 pounds each, were standing nearby stretching and waiting to continue there trip. They were the muscle pure and simple. They listened a Vinnie spoke to the boss. "She's in the trunk of Achmed's car."They could tell the boss wasn't happy even if they couldn't hear him. With that Vinnie turned off his flip phone, they were using cheap disposable ones that could not be traced, and turned to the other guys. "Okay, Pete you and Achmed take the little cunt on to headquarters the rest of us will go back and finish the job"

"What's the boss want us to do?" ask Tony.

"That means we go back and make sure she and the neighbor broad are dead." V innie snapped back. With that they all got back in the cars. The black Audi continued down the road while the two Caddies went back in the direction they had just come from.

Diana bucked under her lover driving her hips up to meet his every thrust. The boy's voice came on and calmly proclaimed "Distress call for you, code red1alpha."………...."Diana, you there?"

Diana didn't answer she had already grabbed her robe and was running out the door putting it on even as he asked if she were there. Bobby asked again a few seconds later just as she ran into the control room still tying her robe. Red1alpha was serious, red meant a hero was in trouble 1 meant it was a life or death situation and alpha it was a close friend or family member. The memory of the Night of Terror 18 years ago still haunted her. The night 22 young heroes and heroines were tortured and murdered and 12 more heroines kidnapped never to be seen or heard from again. This included he own sister, Dru, who was killed after being gang raped and tortured. She couldn't help but wonder who it could be, her mother or another of her sisters Cassie or Donna, Or she prayed please Hera don't let it be Kara. Nobody but a select few knew about her own child, she was just 7 years old and with her grandmother on Paradise Island. She had named the girl after her friend who had died years earlier. She ran to the console and ask "who, what, where?" Taking a second to calm down a bit she again spoke "tell me what you got."

The masked boy's hand were a blur on the controls, that's why he was here. He had trouble controlling his mutant powers, Mainly he could control fire, throw balls of fire, flame up his entire body, thus the special flame retardant suit and he could fly. The real reason he was recruited by the J.L.A. was for his computer skills, he was as good if not better than Barbara Gordon or even Chloe Sullivan were for that matter. Bobby started to explain " we got the call a few moments ago I'm still collecting the data." The call came from a fairly isolated area about 100 miles west of Omaha, pointing at the right screen. The boy had obviously hacked into the Air Forces new spy satellite that was still in it's testing phase before being deployed over the middle east. "According to the woman on the screen here, her name is Mary Wilson, half a dozen goons broke into her friends house, beat the crap outta her and they might have kidnapped her daughter." Diana gave a sigh of relief, it wasn't a family member, but why did this woman have he code. Diana needed to find out more.

"Please help" came the voice of the 50ish worried looking woman on the view screen. "I don't think Linda can hold on much longer, she's lost a lot of blood and she's having trouble breathing."

"Your friends name is Linda?' asked Diana .

"Yes, Linda Davenport….Please hurry she's gonna die if we don’t help her soon." Mary was in tears by this point , an ambulance would be at least an hour and a half round trip to come get Linda and get her to the hospital. Mary didn't think she would last that long.

"Where did you get the emergency J.L.A. transmitter?" She didn't know anyone named Davenport.

"Linda had it in an old foot locker, I don't know where she got it or why she has it all I know is she really needs help."

"Where did you get the codes ?" asked Diana as she looked closely at the codes on the screen. The ww1942 meant the message was for her, but the dragonreddragon code was hers. That is it's the code she would use if calling for help, which she rarely did . This was a real mystery, but the woman honestly seemed to be in need of help.

"The codes were written on this note" she held it up to show the heroes hoping it would help." She wrote it years ago, her older daughter's name is on it."

"She has 2 daughters?" she asked then telling Bobby "See if you can get doctor Mann up here." The station was usually deserted on Sunday mornings and the good doctor was on call this morning.

"Yes, Martha who ran away about 8 years ago is the older one and Barbara is the one that was taken. Please hurry she's dying" the woman begged.

"Well we can't save the world every day " Diana said to her red clad partner. "Is the transporter working?' There was something about the 2 girls names that hit a nerve.

"Yeah, but regs. Won't let us transport a non J.L.A. person to the station without a J.L.A. member first assessing the situation on the ground."

"I guess that means I'll transport down." with that she stepped back from the control station and started to spin. In a flash Diana's robe was replaced with her very sexy wonderwoman attire. Bobby completed the transport , putting Diana outside the house in the back yard. Transporting into a structure without doing complex and time consuming calculations would be too dangerous. He next called the doctor to have him ready after which he checked the stations security footage. There were cameras everywhere on the station except in the stockroom, bathrooms, locker rooms, or living quarters. As she entered the bedroom Mary stepped back as if reading the heroines unease. "Thank god you’re here, please help her."

Diana opened the scanner and pointed it at Linda sweeping it up and down her body a couple of times. The woman still in her blood soaked pajamas appeared to be a 5'8", 145 pound blonde white woman of about 50. Checking the scanner the heroine was put at ease a little this woman was really messed up." Bobby is the doctor there yet?"

Yeah, just beamed him up. He's standing right here."

"Good morning doc sorry to get you up here on a Sunday but it looks like we're going to need your help this woman is in bad shape." not giving the doctor a chance to reply she continued. "I'm sending the data from my scans now, Bobby how soon can you beam us up?"

"Working the calculations now, but heads up looks like your going to be having company. There's 2 cars pulling into the driveway right now." He had been working on the calculations even before beaming Diana down.

Mary looked out of the window to check out the situation "Oh my god , that's 2 of the cars. They're getting out now oh god they got shot guns" she said with panic in her voice.

Bracelets were good against bullets, but buck shot at close range was another matter. "Bobby , you got to get us out of here fast."

"Just a minute more."

"I don't think we have it, hurry up."

The thugs took up position outside, 1 would go in the back door, 1 the front, the other 2 would remain outside as containment. Vinnie entered the kitchen while Tony broke down the front. They met up at the hallway and prepared to follow the blood trail. As they turned to go down the hall with Vinnie leading the way the were both shocked to be met by the sight of a dematerializing wonderwoman. Vinnie ran into the room looking around. Turning to Tony he stated "the boss ain't gonna like this."

The 3 women appeared on the station met quickly by doctor Mann. "Diana , you and, your name's Mary right?" Mary nodded ,a bit in awe of just being transported and by the control room of the space station. "Both of you hurry and help me get her on the gurney, we don't have much time."

The two women carefully helped lift Linda's limp form off the floor and put her on the gurney. With that the doctor rushed off with his patient without another word.

"Good work Bobby" Diana said to the boy who was now smiling proud of himself to no end.

"Thank you, it wasn't nothing really." With that he returned to his controls and back to work. Of course the thought was going through his head who was going to clean up the bloody mess on the floor. Maybe he should have transported the bed, Live and learn.

Diana turned to Mary who was now just looking all around in awe of where she was. Snapping her out of it Diana says "you look like you could use a coffee, I know I could use some now." After all she had only had about an hours sleep, and it wasn't very restful. Pleasurable, but not restful.

Mary just nodded still a bit in shock and the 2 women headed out the door leaving Red Flame to continue what ever he was doing.

A half hour later the 2 women were nursing their second cup of coffee. Mary had told Diana her life story. How she had eloped with her high school sweet heart right after graduation and moved to Kansas City. How she had gone to college while he worked in a factory. How the relationship had turned abusive, but when 7 months pregnant with their second child he had refrained hitting her and beat their 10 year old son. The next morning right after her husband had left for work she quickly loaded the car with some cloths for her and the boy. She had to leave a lot behind as they raced for the security of their home town, where father still lived and her cousin was the sheriff. An other cousin was a captain with the state police. The day after they got home her angry ex showed up walking up to the house with a baseball bat. Mary's father opened the door before her ex got halfway up the walk. Pop was holding a shotgun, stopping the angry sob in his tracks, he had no question the old coot would use it. Moments later her 2 cousins showed up and "convinced" him to leave and never return. Someone could bury a body out there in the middle of nowhere and it would never be found. Mary didn't tell Diana that last part. Mary then went to the diner at the truck stop on the highway a mile from the house. She got a waiting job that she had in high school and had been working there since. He son had left after college and is working in L.A.. Her daughter is 18, the same age as Barbi. In fact their birthdays are only 3 days apart. Diana was about to ask about Linda when the doctor walked into the dining hall smiling from ear to ear. He would have like to have been frowning, but that would have been 1 bad joke to play.

"Is everything alright doc?' asked Diana still a bit concerned even though the doctor was smiling." You couldn't have finished yet."

"Fine everything is fine" the doctor stated still smiling a the 2 confused ladies. The man then put a small black object about the size of a dime with some small wires coming out of it on the table.

"What's this?" asked the confused Diana.

"What we have here is a P.D.C. (power disrupting chip), I pulled it out of the back of her neck near her spine." Not holding on to the suspense longer he said "the woman in question is Kryptonian."

"What? You mean she's like a clone of supergirl or something." Luthor was always trying to clone supergirl when she was alive, either that or get her pregnant. Maybe this one escaped somehow, that might explain why she was in the middle of nowhere. She was hiding out, Diana's mind was racing.

Mary was just sitting there, mouth opened in stunned shock.

"That's what I thought so I ran some tests. I compared some of her D.N.A. with some we had on file from Supergirl's body the day she died." The doctor was almost giddy now.

"Well?"

"As you know when you make a clone there are small mutations in the DNA, the supergirl you buried 24 years ago was the clone." The smiling doctor then stated "this is the real supergirl."

"What, are you sure?"

"Positive, she's still sleeping right now ." then the doc added "I think we should let her rest a while, I'll call you when she wakes up." with that the doctor left to return to sickbay.

Diana turned to Mary "will you be okay by yourself for a few minutes I need to make a call?"

"I think so , I'm a bit confused but I"ll be okay I guess."

"I'll be back soon." With that Diana got up and darted out the door and ran to the control center. Nobody in the J.L.A. would have helped Kara pull this off, but there was someone who wasn't who could have helped pull this off. Mae -Lynn Winslow was one of Kara's friends from her school days. Mae was Lotus Blossom, also known as the Shadow Warrior. Mae was the owner of a suit forged by a very powerful and ancient magic. She had the ability to have pulled this off, and Diana would start her investigation with her. Entering the control room with purpose she walked up to the secondary station and sat down.

"Something wrong?" asked Bobby.

"No just have to make a short phone call." Bobby returned his attention to what he was doing before while Diana brought up a phone directory on hers. She knew Mae live in the Boston area and the she had married a man named Winslow years ago, but had had very little contact with her since the Night of Terror, she had held Mae partially responsible for Dru's death. There meetings since had been short and brief with little if any conversation. Finding the listing she place the call.

The phone rang 5 times before a woman answered, "hello?'

"Is this Mae- Lynn Winslow?" Diana asked in a low enough voice as not to be heard by Bobby on the other side of the room, Lotus was ultra secretive about her secret identity,

"Depends on who's askin?"

"Diana Prince."

"I'm retired now, what do you want?"

"Information."

"What information could you want from me, you didn't want the information I offered you years ago?" Mea had been late getting to Dru's aid that day because so was digging though her captors computer files. She got there just in time to see Dru struck down, but the data she had obtained was that this organization had a list of heroes, their secret identities, and their addresses. She also found the data had come from the J.L.A.'s own computer files. In her grief Diana blamed Mae for not getting there fast enough to save her sister and wouldn't listen to Mae's concerns. Neither could have known that the death of Dru was just the beginning of the Night of Terror.

"I'm sorry, I should have listened." Pausing for a second she continued "I need to know why we have a badly hurt Kara Zor-El in our sick bay right now.'

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, I'm sure and you don't sound very surprised by this." Diana knew she was right that Mae was involved with this secret.

"I'm surprised she's there, but your right I'm not surprised she's alive."

"Could you come up to Watch Tower for a while?"

"I told you I'm retired, I'm going to be making cookies with my grand daughter today."

"Some guys broke into her home this morning, beat the crap out of here and took her daughter."

"Your transporter won't work on me with my suit on."

"Best I can do is have the security cameras on the pad turned off."

"Give me a few moments to get ready." Then she added "I only want you in the control room when I transport."

Mae walked into her room and over to her closet. She needed something to wear . In her early years she wore a black sports bra and matching panties with her power suit to give her some coverage. Her power suit looked more like body paint than some form of armor. This meant that without some form of coverage her pussy and nipples would be clearly visible. But that quickly drained the suits power reserves. The suit also included a helmet with 3 settings, no face mask, half mask which offered a friendly face while keeping her identity secret, and full shield which offered full protection including filtered air and an ability to scan her surroundings.

As a young woman she wore just a bra and panties with the suit. Kara had told her the sexy attire would distract her opponents, she was right. When she got a little older she used a black body suit like a dancer would wear. But now for a grandmother in her sixties, even though see had a body any 40 year old would be proud of, something a little more conservative was called for. Stripping out of her night gown she quickly dressed in her chosen attire. She then retuned to the closet and searched the floor in the back pulling out a wooden box about 4 foot long, 8 inches wide and 5 inches deep. Walking back to the kitchen she picked up the phone and said "I'm ready."

"You got a cell phone?"

"Yeah, why?"

"I'm going to use it to lock the signal on you."

Grabbing her phone off the counter where it was charging she said "got it."

"What's the number?"

Mae gave the number to Diana then Diana told her to turn it on and go outside and get at least 6 or 7 feet from the house. Mae did as instructed and seconds later found herself miles above the Earth on the space station.

"Nice outfit." Diana was trying to be nice even though she was mad as hell inside. "I see you still go bare foot."

"Suit engage." spoke Mae and Diana watched as every square inch of Mae's body except her face looked like it was being painted black. After she was fully covered, which took just seconds, and her helmet formed she said "half mask." With that a smoky glass looking covering appeared shielding the top of her face and hiding her identity. Only 2 heroes knew who she was and she wanted it to stay that way. Those 2 being Diana and Kara, her daughter the only other person to know her secret. "You can turn the cameras back on now." Mae turned off her phone and put it in her pocket, and asked "how is she doing?"

" The last report was she's healing nicely, but still unconscious." Diana made a gesture to usher Mae toward the door. "We can wait in the dining hall."

As the door opened the met Red Flame waiting in the hall. Diana introduced the two by their hero names then told Bobby he could turn the cameras back on and continue with whatever he was doing. As Bobby returned to the control room he thought that with all he had heard and read on her he would have thought Lotus Blossom would have been bigger. The woman he had just met was barely 5 foot tall and no more than 100 pounds. He also knew that she had to be at least 60 but she didn't look it. In fact going by what he could see she could pass for 40 or maybe even 35 he wasn't sure as he couldn't see the top of her face.

The two heroines then continued onto the dining hall where Diana introduced Mae to Mary. Diana told Lotus that Mary has been Linda's best friend for the past 18 years or so and Mary that Mae had known Linda as a school girl and into adult life. "They're both traveling at Mach 5 now, sir."

"How fast is she going now?" the general asked.

"Mach 8, sir."

"Is she going to make it?"

"I'd say if she can get to mach 10 soon she can catch it but stopping a missile that size would take Superman or someone like that."

When they got to the control center Bobby said "You got to see this." He put tv broadcasts up on the screen. "Nice to have you back." answered the queen.

"Is she there?" asked Diana.

"Is who there?" asked Kara.

"You'll see." Diana stated again.
